I am very honoured to be your Lady Captain for 2021, I only hope, along with you, that this year sees our golfing calendar return to somewhere near normal and we can once again all come together to play golf the way we like it.

Prior to becoming Lady Captain, I have served on the committee for 5 years, two of which as Honorary Secretary. I also look after the ladies’ section of the Belton Woods website and our Facebook page. I don’t think there are any ladies presently playing on a regular basis in our comps that I have yet to meet. My mission is to seek out those lady members who don’t feel they are able, for whatever reason, to play in the weekly competitions. If it makes you feel any better, I will go down in Belton Woods history as the captain with the highest handicap!

2020 was a tough year in many ways for many people and being able to get out and play golf with our friends was a tonic we all welcomed. Unfortunately, the pandemic and resultant restrictions meant the cancellation of our trophy competitions and our annual Presentation evening. We will certainly make up for it this year.

I’m pleased to announce my Charity for my captaincy year is ‘Support Dogs’, a charity dedicated to providing assistance dogs to children and adults affected by epilepsy, physical disabilities and families of children with autism. I have put more information on the work of the Charity on this website (see link below).

I would like to wish my fellow Captains, Dave, Colin and Andrew a very successful and enjoyable year and look forward to playing alongside you in the mixed comps. Jill Baggaley kindly consented to be my Vice for this year, and I know we will work well together and have lots of fun along the way.

We may not be back to “normal” before the Spring or later but we have a full calendar of qualifiers and fun team competitions, along with a few surprises, to look forward to so I’ll hopefully see you all out on the fairways. Here’s to post match coffee and catch ups, hugs on the 18th green, oh, and removing the flagstick!
