SENIORS CAPTAIN

I am Leicester born and bred, but moved following a promotion at work to live in Sleaford back in Oct 1984.

We used to have a holiday home in Northampton, so all of my social time was spent down there, it made sense to join a golf club locally, and I was a member of Overstone Park GC for many years.

We sold our holiday home some 5 years ago, and since then I have now retired, hence the reason why I joined the Belton Woods Seniors on a recommendation by a very close friend and member.

And can I say that joining the Seniors at Belton has been one of the best things that I have ever done.

I would like to say to the Seniors at Belton Woods, a HUGE THANK YOU for accepting not only me but also my wife Joy as well, we have made so many knew friends these last few years, that our retirement has become so much more enjoyable.

I must say that the Seniors Section epitomise in every way what social golf is all about, The Seniors Section meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (usual time for meeting being 8.00am ish) for Social Golf, starting with a roll up to draw for partners on the day, (so you are always playing with someone different), the ‘Banter’ is exceptional, and is guaranteed to make you laugh. (If you can’t take it, don’t give it is the rule).

We also run monthly competitions for both medal and stableford, and in addition there are regular matches with other local golf clubs (both home and away).

Least of all there is Captain’s day and also a Captain’s away day to look forward to as well.

Finally, we have in recent times, started to venture on an Overnighter in a Hotel, with two games of golf to endure.

And let me say that it is not just all about playing golf, the Seniors membership do have a lot of social gatherings throughout the year, so there is always an opportunity to meet up with other members and their wives or partners, (and that does tend to keep the Boss happy as well).

The last three years have not been easy with COVID and other things that have been going on as well, and needless to say it has taken its toll on the Seniors membership.

Let me tell you that I am fully committed, to helping rebuild the Senior Section of Belton Woods membership, and can I say that any knew members will get an introduction to the membership second to none.

So please if you fall into the bracket of ‘Seniorship’ being aged 55+ and you are looking for something to brighten up your life please give us a crack, I guarantee you will not be disappointed, (contact details below).

My chosen Charity for this Year is St. Barnabas Hospice in the Grantham Hospital which for personal reasons is a cause very close to my Heart.

So that is all from me, take care and stay safe all of you.

Kind regards

Andy Wood
