Friday 12th April - Away to Stoke Rochford

Our league season kicked off in fine style as we stepped out looking very smart in our new team colours generously sponsored by Mr Kevin Keep from Playdeck UK Ltd.

The whole team were fired up and ready to get the match underway, with what for the many were new playing partners as a result of some recent handicap changes! The welcome from the Stoke Rochford ladies over a coffee and chat was as per usual, a warm and friendly one but there was no doubt that as we stepped out onto the first tee the competition was well and truly on. The course looked magnificent and played really well as did each Belton Woods pairings of Trudi & Lesley, Caroline & Gaynor, Carole and Lorraine and Jan & Wendy to bring home an amazing 3-1 away win!!!

Well done to every one of you, we couldn’t have hoped for a better start, and we’re now chomping at the bit for the next match later this month.

(Unfortunately Burghley requested we postponed this match due to a severe weather warning for the day of the match, we will now play on Friday 26 July)

Saturday 25th May - At home Vs Stoke Rochford

Belton Woods ‘A’ Team ladies competed on our own Lakes course in our second match of the season, once again playing Stoke Rochford.

The weather made for a beautiful golfing day and things appeared to be going well for us when the first two home pairings secured wins in their matches and keenly watched as the last two groups battled to the bitter end only to loose on the 18th to make for an overall 2-2 draw.

Thank you as always from your match captain to Lesley, Caroline, Gaynor, Carole, Lorraine, Wendy and Shirley.

Wednesday 10th July - Away to Woodhall Spa

(report submitted by Liz Moses, acting Captain in Trudi's absence)

The Hotchkin course was demanding and unforgiving,  with short drives punished by the heather.

However,  the pairings of Lesley and Carole,  Caroline and Jan,  Lorraine and Wendy and Judi and Liz prevailed to win 2 and a half to 1and a half. Jan Machin also recorded a magnificent hole in one on the 5th. Congratulations Jan!

Huge thanks to all the team but especially to Judi who stepped in on Wednesday morning at 8.00 when one of the team had to drop out with a major problem. Well done everyone.

Friday 26 July at HOME v Burghley Park

Thankfully it appears the good warm weather has followed me home which certainly goes a long way in making everyone feel upbeat and positive and showcases our magnificent Lakes course off to its best. The mutual friendship between our clubs was exchanged over coffee before getting down to the real purpose of our meeting, the match! Competition was very tough and each and every one of us had to battle out there to even pull off a draw on our home course!

Thank you to you all - Lesley, Carole, Gaynor, Caroline, Lorraine, Wendy & Shirley and well done to the pairings who secured the wins.

Saturday 3 August at HOME v Woodhall Spa

Within a matter of weeks from our last meeting it was our turn to welcome Woodhall Spa ‘A’ team to Belton Woods. The weather was kind once again, the course was looking fantastic and for a Saturday morning it was ‘millionaires’ golf’ making for a trouble free and speedy round, very impressive for our visitors! The pairing on both teams differed from our previous meeting but the quality of the golf played in each pairing was very high only on this occasion going slightly in favour of Woodhall as we only managed a 2-2 draw slightly disappointing with a home advantage.

My sincere thanks none the less go to Lesley, Carole, Gaynor, Caroline, Lorraine, Liz and Kim who I know go out every single time with the complete intention they will bring back a win, thank you to you all.

Wednesday 7 August AWAY at Burghley Park

Our final match of 2019 was fraught with tension as a win or draw in this match would have us winners of our division with a move back up into division one, how nice that would be!

With only a couple of weeks since our teams last met both sides pretty much knew what they were up against with each pairing fighting for their win. The course at Burghley was presented in good order having undergone several changes since most of us had lasted visited. Trees and water hazards had been removed replaced with strategically placed bunkers and greens that proved tricky to fathom out playing massively in favour of the home team. Each match was well contested with the first match going all the way to the 18th but unfortunately it was not to be our day and the final result was a 3-1 win to Burghley so we stay in division two for another year.  Lets hope we have a change of luck next year.
