Belton Woods Juniors showed their strength in depth with a fantastic win in the South Lincolnshire Junior League Final at South Kyme on Wednesday. The final was contested by Belton Woods, Belton Park, Stoke Rochford and Greetham Valley in a singles matchplay format.

The win was made even more special as the team had to contend with absences from players through Holiday, Work and Education commitments during the previous rounds and only 2 hours before the final losing one of their key players through illness.

After a some frantic phone calls, James Beard stepped into the breach and despite being 5 down after 5 holes in one of his matches finished with 2 wins and a half. This feat made even more remarkable by the fact that he had to lose 9 shots, because of the handicap qualification for the competition.

James and Ed Hobbs had both stepped up to support the team, with little experience of team match play, but admirably supported the two more experienced players of the quartet Edward Bellamy and Rory Dunbar who were both unbeaten in their groups of matches.

Other members of the squad who have contributed during the seasonwere Daniel Agapito, Izzy Linsley, Josh Buil, and Ethan Welsh.

This is the first time in the history of the competition that Belton Woods Golf Club will have their name on the Shield.

The team now go on to represent the South Lincolnshire League at Toft Golf Club on 24th September against the North Lincolnshire League winners either Woodhall Spa or Ashby Decoy.

Before this however, the team are contesting the quarter finals of the BCCS National Junior Knockout away to Ashby Decoy on 31st August.
