JUNIOR NEWS, RESULTS & EVENTS 2010

Wednesday 18th August, despite a great performance our Junior Team just missed out on the South Linc’s title by 3 points to Spalding GC. Our finals team of Ryan Smith, Jake Craddock, Jono Stapleton & Josh Stevens outplayed the other finalists Burleigh Park and Thorney Lakes, but were not quite able to overcome Spalding, despite taking 4 of their matches down the 18th hole. Congratulations to Jake, Ryan, Jono & Josh (pictured below), also to our other key players during the league matches, Junior Captain Chris Haynes, Matt Haynes and Matt Hemstock, and also to Junior Organiser Allan Haynes for a great summer of Junior golf results.

Wednesday 11th August great success for the Belton Woods Junior Team as we secure a home victory to win the South Linc’s Junior League title. Led out by Junior Club Captain Chris Haynes, this is a great achievement from Allan Haynes and the team in what has been a mixture of experience in Chris & Matt Haynes and “new blood” with several of the new players performing very well. Nine year old Jake Craddock on his return to Belton Woods especially so.

Wednesday 4th August Belton Woods Junior team are now joint leaders with Belton Park on 49 points. the final round of the junior League Matches is the home tie on Wednesday 11th August.

From the match at Blankney Matt Haynes won 1, halved 1, lost 1 giving 9,7,6 shots another outstanding performance from Ryan Smith winning all 3 matches. When Junior Organiser Allan Haynes spoke to Josh Stevens on the eleventh he was losing all his matches but he turned his game around to finish in the same position as Matt Haynes. Lastly was our young Jake Craddock winning one match 7&6 and halving the other and taking the other free points from no show Blankney giving us 17 points so we now are on the same points as Belton Park both on 49. Hopefully home advantage next Wednesday will do it,

On another note Chris Haynes played at Woodhall Spa in the Presidents day shooting a 1 over par round earned him first place in the under 18s and 2nd place in the main event, another great result form Chris

Monday 2nd August Belton Woods Juniors Alex Doig (9), Alexander Hemstock (11) and Matthew Hemstock (11), all competed in the 3rd round of the Lincolnshire Junior Imps Tour at Boston Golf Club. Junior Imps - Spalding 005-1

During May Josh Stevens, Jonno Stapleton, Ryan Smith and Alex Doig continue to feature regularly in the results of our Men’s Sunday and Wednesday Roll up competitions

April 21st Ryan Smith won the first Wednesday night club roll up with an impressive 19 points.

April 18th and more good news Jono Stapleton won last weekends Men’s Stableford with an excellent 41 points and securing and handicap reduction. Josh Stevens again scoring well.

Early congratulations go to Matt Haynes (2.1) for another outstanding level par round in the men’s individual medal competition on Sunday 3rd April. During the same competition Josh Stevens scored an outstanding net 64 to win best nett and reduce his handicap form 27 to 23.

Matt Hemstock also reducing his handicap this weekend from 33 to 30 with a fine gross 49 on the front of the Woods

We have also just enjoyed our first friendly competition of the year. A well organised an adult junior greensome played on Easter Saturday, arranged by Allan Haynes. Well supported by around 10 pairs made up of fathers, sons, grandfathers, friends as well as someone who just happened to be free. Winners Easter Eggs were donated by Allan Haynes and entry moneys went toward winning golf balls.

A pairs greensome where both players tee off, the best drive selected and then alternate shots played until the ball is in the hole. 18 holes played with half the combined handicaps

In 1st place after count-back with 37 points Alex Hemstock & Mike Jamieson

In 2nd place 37 points Josh Stevens & Tony Hills

3rd after count-back on 35 points was Lewis Beck & Danny Botherway

4th on 35 points Ryan Smith & Matt Haynes

Below are some of the highlights of our 2009 year of Junior golf

Matt Haynes the 2009 Junior Club Champion

Junior Champion 2009

Matt scored an excellent gross 75 net 72 on the Woodside course to be the new Junior Club Champion, his score also put him into second place at the half way stage of the Mens’ club championship, closely followed by brother Chris one shot behind.

Junior 9 hole Champion Ryan Smith (11) shot a gross 46 (net 34) playing off 23 including a great birdie 3 on the 3rd hole stroke index 1.

Best net score in the Junior 9 hole was shared by early starter Josh Mackey and match 1 player Tom Palframan.

Except for one bad hole from Josh he would have returned an outstanding score, even so I have a feeling our Handicap Secretary will be pleased to put his scissors over his handicap.... chop chop chop.

We are fast running out of superlatives to describe one of our newest members. Eagles Champion Jake Craddock (8) scored a truly magnificent gross 44 (net 31) on the Front 9 of the Woodside course playing off a handicap of 25.

A good second place was won by Matthew Hemstock (10) with a gross score of 53 (net 36) playing off 34.

Alex Hemstock and Charlie Cann sharing 3rd in the Eagles.

Junior presentation was Thursday 1st October.

Some of our our “class of 09”

Great professional coaching, regular club nights and supportive parents.

All of these lads could become very good young golfers.

Always remember it’s a tough game, just when you think you cracked it, it comes back to bite you.

A selection of photo’s from our afternoon in the sun, can you “spot my golf swing.com”..??

Belton Woods was so packed, they even laid on a hot air balloon to get a better view of our rising golf stars.

Please see more photo’s below, as I try to restructure this page slightly.

Tom (below) slides one low under the trees, Matt (lefty) drains a testy swinging 3 footer, Alex (above) uses mum as target practice.

Early starter Josh (below) went out with the men to help sharpen his Spurs, only he can tell you about the frightening 4th.... but which was worse the hole score or the football score, stick with it Josh we are all United.

Players on the 170 yard par 3, hole 8, short punchy irons to snap your spine swings that us dads can only dream of.... several pars, lots of bogey 4’s + a few “others”.

Was this match the “Dream Team”..?

Was there a new Champion to come out of this group...

Alex (left) drains a slippery 6 footer, Jack (right) recovering his composure sinks a 5 footer, “Cool Hand” Jake a never in doubt 4 footer. Three great putts on the 476 yard par 5, 7th.

Only 2 holes to play and the pressure mounts, the par 3, 8th, a testy 170 yards, late afternoon and stunning views across the course. At several hundred feet above, our courses must have looked spectacular.

Back to the action..... as the last group play from the 8th tee. Tom, (above) posts a straight one just short of the bunker, a great chip over sees him safely on the green. Matthew hits a cracking 5 wood splashing straight into the bunker on the full... that could be nasty, but a great shot from a tough stance puts him to 10ft. Charlie, leaks one into the bushes on the left but a great chip out puts him at the back of the green for 2. They can smell the cola and crisps waiting for them in the 19th.

Now really, how great does the course look, 8th tee looking back down 7 and across to 1st green lakes.

The galleries were packed around the 9th green, with hotel guests leaning out the their windows applauding some great shots around the green. The resident pro’s came out to see them all off and the parents came to see them all home, what better way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon

Everyone played with good manners and good etiquette. Some rules questions on the way round showed all these guys were well aware of the importance of honesty and integrity. All the parents should be proud.
